GD4S elects Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia, as its new President and inaugurates its first permanent office in Brussels
Brussels, 07 February 2023 – Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S) has appointed Nedgia's CEO, Raúl Suárez, as its new President during its Annual General Meeting in Brussels, in continuity with the company’s mandate.
Raúl Suárez begins his term in a context marked by the finalisation of several key EU legislative files for the future of the energy system, including the EU Gas Package, the Methane Emissions Regulation and the general completion of the Fit for 55 package. "We need a new look at European energy policy, with a better combination of emissions reduction objectives, energy security and competitiveness”, he stated.
The new President of GD4S has set himself the goal of promoting collaboration between GD4S’ members and other EU associations to promote the relevant role of gas in the debate on the EU’s energy policy. "Distribution networks provide reliability and are crucial assets for households, industries and the European economy as a whole to accelerate the energy transition with renewable gases: biomethane today and hydrogen tomorrow", said Raúl Suárez.
The members of the General Assembly – Paolo Gallo (CEO of Italgas), Dan Pantilie (CEO of Distrigaz Sud Retele), Laurence Poirier-Dietz (CEO of GRDF), Gabriel Sousa (CEO of Floene), Jeroen Sanders (CTO of Enexis, Leonidas Bakouras (General Manager of Edathess) and Denis O'Sullivan (Managing Director of Gas Networks Ireland) – took the opportunity to salute the work achieved by GD4S’ outgoing President, Narcís de Carreras and to wish him all the best in his new endeavour.
The day was successfully concluded with GD4S’ first cocktail reception at the Renewable Energy House, where the association has just installed its first permanent office in Brussels. This milestone in the development of the association was inaugurated by its new President who welcomed the numerous guests in the premises.
