Brussels, 13th September 2022 – GD4S is particularly proud to announce that the three main Dutch gas distributors, Alliander, Stedin, and Enexis, have joined the association.

We warmly welcome the arrival of these new members. Thanks to their expertise in the field and their existing strong cooperation, they together constitute a great added value to the work carried by GD4S and will make our common voice in the European debate stronger” comments GD4S’ President, Narcis de Carreras.

The Netherlands is indeed a great example of the importance of developing all available solutions, including biomethane and hydrogen, to create a pathway towards climate neutrality that is affordable to all and practically feasible on the ground. Recent national developments have shown the crucial role of distribution gas grids to accommodate growing demand for renewable gases for both the industry and households. Bringing such concrete feedback and expertise at the forefront of the on-going discussions on the future of the energy landscape in Europe is one of the core missions of GD4S.”

Together, Alliander, Stedin, and Enexis service almost 7 million consumers and operate more than 110,000 kilometres of gas grids across the Netherlands. Their arrival is timely, as the debate on the role of gases and distribution grids in accelerating the transition towards a secure, clean and affordable energy will intensify in the second half of 2022. In the Netherlands, the potential for biomethane production is certain, with estimates of around 2 bcm per year by 2030, contributing to the switch to renewable gases.

With these new members, GD4S now represents the main gas DSOs from 8 member states with over 35 million consumers.
