JOINT STATEMENT - Zero-emission buildings: renewable energy delivered through grids is key
In a joint statement released today on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, GD4S, as part of an industry coalition from the heating value chain, reiterates its call to policymakers to fully recognise the role of energy infrastructure as enablers of a range of renewable and energy efficient solutions to decarbonise buildings.
The co-signatories welcome the progress made by EU institutions thus far on this crucial file but would like to recall that it is essential to extend the possibility to cover renewable energy demand of zero-emission buildings to all renewable energy sources, including renewable energy delivered through the grids from off-site production sites or seasonal storages.
This means that some technical improvements must still be made in the definition on the Zero Emission Building as well as in the provisions of Annex III on the role of Power Purchase Agreements, to avoid restricting the use of renewable energy from the grids in the decarbonisation of the European building stock.
Expanding the panel of solutions instead of limiting them is essential for a fast decarbonisation of European buildings that leaves no consumers, no resident, no homeowners behind!
