Overview
Biomethane is the purified version of biogas, produced from the breakdown of organic matter. Biomethane can be made of organic waste, like manure, food scraps or damaged crops, and is therefore a modern way of waste management.
Our Vision
Biomethane is a sustainable alternative to fossil energy sources, delivering significant greenhouse gas emissions reduction and contributing to the achievement of both EU and Members States’ renewable energy and emissions reduction targets. It can also be used to further diversify the EU’s gas supplies, phasing out Europe’s dependency on Russian fossil fuels.
Our ambition
Promote the developement of biomethane production, a flexible alternative to natural gas as it can be readily stored and deployed across the whole energy system, using existing gas infrastructure and end-use technologies.
