Overview
The buildings sector is a key contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, representing 35% of energy-related EU emissions in 2021. A reduction in emissions from the buildings sector of 60% compared to 2015 level is required to meet the overall 2030 GHG emissions reduction target of net 55%, compared with 1990 levels.
Our Vision
Buildings are a hard-to-abate sector and even harder to fully electrify at a reasonable cost. All renewable ready solutions, including gas-based technologies, are needed to allow all homeowners to find the most efficient decarbonation pathway for their building.
Our ambition
Ensure that all renewable energy production, storage, grid capacity and possible synergies contribute to a reliable and affordable transition.
Optimise the buildings decarbonisation by considering the building’s interactions with the energy system, especially for the winter heating peak demand.
